What is Periodontology Specialty?

It is the specialty that performs the diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases, including gum aesthetics.

What Are Gum Diseases?

  • Gum Recession

Gum recession, which is more likely to occur in older age, can also be seen in younger ages due to various reasons.

What is Gum Recession?

It is the pulling back of the gum tissue towards the tooth root due to various factors. Using a very hard-bristled brush or incorrect brushing techniques, inadequate oral hygiene leading to tartar formation, bone resorption, smoking, biting pencils, or even traumatic actions like teeth grinding can cause gum recession.

It should be noted that gum recession is not a condition itself but rather a consequence of a condition. Diagnosis and treatment aim to identify and eliminate the underlying cause.

What Are the Symptoms of Gum Recession?

The tooth appears to be elongated.

There is swelling and bleeding in the gums.

Small gaps form between the teeth.

Tooth sensitivity to cold increases.

There is difficulty in brushing due to pain in the exposed part of the tooth.

How is Gum Recession Treated?

In gum treatment, the cause is first determined. After identifying whether the cause is related to conditions such as bone resorption, traumatic, or hygienic factors, treatment is carried out with a minor operation. Since the operation is performed under local anesthesia, no pain is felt during the treatment of gum recession.

  • Gum Inflammation and Gum Bleeding

The inflammation in the tissues that nourish the teeth and gums, such as tooth loss and bone resorption, is called periodontal disease. Gum bleeding is a symptom of these periodontal diseases.

  • Blood disorders
  • Smoking
